Track your calories for a few weeks.

Thank you to my dear friend Meg for this advice.  Although I must admit it took me a few years to actually try it.  I did not want to look up everything I put in my mouth and jot down the calories.  Who has time ? I'm a stay at home mom of 3 that home-schools.   O-k so after kiddo #3, I was 20 pounds heavier than I was before baby #1.  And this was 9 months after he was born.  I was working out and eating very organically healthy.   The weight was hanging on.  So I finally decided to track my calories. WOW, was this an eye opener.  Not only did I lose 2-3 pounds a week.  I also was able to find the culprits in my diet.  Those healthy grains, oils , nuts , breads and  cookies that I was eating were high calorie.  And I was eating way to much of them.  So I started measuring my foods.  After the first two days I knew what I needed to eliminate.  Sugary items first because these made me hungrier through out the day making it harder at the end of the day when I had reached my calorie limit.  I quickly learned that I needed to make my calories count. Lean meats, lots of vegetables, and a little fruit.
This is where I started. I visited http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm  to find out how many calories I could eat a day to lose weight.  Then I uploaded the google calorie counter to my homepage. http://www.google.com/webmasters/igoogle/calorie.html  I was able to lose the 20 pounds in 6 weeks counting calories and working out.
